The Oregon Coast is an area of varied terrains with many different marginal habitats which encourages biodiversity.  Much of it is also pretty sparsely populated, leaving lots of room for native plants and wildlife.  The water at the edge of the ocean is teaming with life and that attracts an abundance of seabirds and their predators.  The water moderates the temperatures making this a good wintering area for birds from farther north.
